和谐社会
It seems very ridiculous that people living so near don’t know each other for such a long time. However, this kind of story is performed everywhere. It is the exact reflection of interpersonal relationships in the modern world. In the modern world, most people live in apartments. They close their doors and never go out as soon as they get home from work. If they live alone, they will kill their time by watching TV or reading magazines. They don’t have any connections even with their closest neighbors, who seem no different from people they meet everyday in the street. They become more and more indifferent. This phenomenon is no good to us, nor to our society. People will feel lonely more and more. The world becomes so indifferent. Interpersonal relationships are not harmonious. It’s time that we took some measures to improve it. People living in the same zone can be organized to have some activities together. We should call on people to be friendly to each other. As a popular song says,” If everybody gives a little love to each other, the world will become the sea of love.”
Building a Harmonious Society of Mutual Trust
In the cartoon above, wearing a schoolbag, a boy, who is in rags, is on his knees to beg money on the most crowded street of the city. According to the explanation he wrote in front of him, we know that he used to be a good student, but poverty force him to leave school. Instead of giving a hand, most people just pass by without casting a glance. Does it mean our society has become a desert of love? Definitely not. The real reason is we are not sure whether the young beggar is really a poor genius or a genius in manipulating innocent people’s conscience. Distrust among people is the bitter fruit we harvest from the three of deceiving. And distrust has already become the most unharmonious note in the symphony of our society.
Take my experience for example; I once applied for a part-time job in a private school. During the one-hour interview, instead of talking about the textbook and teaching method, the headmaster spent more than half of the time on my university life. He kept asking detailed questions, such as location and history of my university, even the name of the principle. He intended to make sure the girl in front of him is a college student instead of an idler.
Lack of trust brings with it a great waste of time and energy; and therefore, it has reduced the efficiency of our society. The days of no deception has long become misty memories in our dreams. Nowadays it is an age nearly nothing could be believed except being checked and investigated. Even the reliability of the news from the media is often challenged. If everybody would only trustworthy, the world becomes a better place to live.
Regretfully, my experience is not rear, but something of prevalence. A harmonious society should enable all the people to enjoy a comfortable and carefree life. We admit that technology can make abundant products, help us to accumulate boundless wealth, and settle endless problems. But technology is not omnipotent; as it is powerless facing human distrust. Because of distrust, we hesitate to purchase on-line. Because of distrust, we suspect the effect of the medicine advertised. Because of distrust, we dare not open the door for the people in need of help. Because of distrust, we choose to remain silent in times of depression.
From these examples, we see distrust among people brings with it the alienation of human relationships and reduction of efficiency, which threatens our regard for a harmonious society. Great effort should be taken to forge ever-closer relationships among people, which can result in lasting stability and unity. Ladies and gentlemen, upright men are the salt of the earth. We should cherish our good names as the birds do with their feathers. And always bear in mind: honesty is the best policy.
