　　这道题难在第二段的第一句话，即It is difficult to the point of impossibility for the average reader under the age of forty to imagine a time when high-quality arts criticism could be found in most big-city newspapers.这句话几乎把所有考生都读晕了。但接下来用了个Yet转折词，后边的大致含义就是20世纪出版的评论集内容的很大一部分就是报纸评论。今天去读这种评论集就惊奇这样一个事实，即评论集的博学内容曾经被认为是适合在日报上发表的。答案的出处很明显，肯定在yet之后。与此部分相关的选项只有D，并且把第二段的第一句话中的under age of forty替换为young。所以确定无疑是选D。

　　为什么不选B?B的含义是对的，但不是正确答案。若题干为从第一段中能得出什么，那就肯定是选B了。但题干问的是第一段和第二段中的含义是什么。所以不能选B。
