Dear Prof. Smith,

　　I am writing this letter in order to apologize to you for I have to cancel my travelling plan in your local city, and I will fail to visit you as I promised.

　　I really have kept our appointment in my mind all these days. However, when I was set out for the airport, I suddenly had a severe stomachache , so I have to go to the hospital to see a doctor. It’s unexpected and urgent and I must go. I am extremely sorry that I cannot keep my promise, but I wonder whether I could have another appointment with you on next weekend if you are available.

　　I am looking forward to your early reply. I apologize to you more than I can say. Please forgive me.

　　Li Ming
